Tarrytown

WOW ZEE DOW ZEE!!

New York is SPECTACULAR from the water. We had beautiful weather, not too much traffic, though my hands were clutching the wheel for several exciting moments. And then, there she was the Lady of the Harbor. No doubt about it, brings tears to your eyes.

Then a transit up the Hudson to Tarrytown, if you have never seen the Palasades from the water, they are amazing -- large purple trees in bloom -- black brown shear cliffs of rock, and sparkling blue water of the Hudson River. We will celebrate James' 64th birthday this evening with showers, getting fancy, and actually going to a restaurant for dinner.

Tomorrow we go north again -- aiming to be at Troy Lock on the next day. Chessie has sorta settled in -- didn't much care for the ocean where there was bouncing and rolling, but the river deserved a day on the back deck sleeping.

The only downer? Well, diesel is $5.80 a gallon at this particular marina -- although in Sandy Hook (aka Atlantic Highlands) it was $4.66 -- go figure. We are getting a little over 1 1/2 miles per gallon so hold onto your purses!

You will soon be passing, "A landmark beacon on the Hudson River, the Saugerties Lighthouse is a venerable red-brick lighthouse built in 1869 at the mouth of the Esopus Creek." www.saugertieslighthouse.com

No doubt, New York is a great experience from the water. I saw the Lady one time in the setting sun as I was coming out of the East River - awesome!

Happy Birthday James!
