Getting ready for the big jump off to Kingston Ontario

We are in Oswego, NY -- and if the weather gods agree we will cross Lake Ontario tomorrow to enter Canadian waters.

A long day today, and good. We found out that we have to live with the slipping belts, apparently everything done in Annapolis this spring was as advised by Volvo America. The good news is that there is no harm done to the engines, just to the frayed and frazzeled driver (also to the crew).

Today's lesson is that even the best of plans -- let's not get behind that boat in the lock, let's pull to the other side so there will be no problem when we all go to leave -- doesn't always work when the other crew drops their hold on their lines before the captain has their engines going. Great save by Ellen who smartly threw our newly purchased BIG fenders between Sonador and the other boat (about 50 feet of horrible up close rub rail) Alls well that ends well -- no scratches on anyone or anything.

And tonight, after we were tied up in this marina -- a tug captain whose boat we had passed along the Oswego River, came to compliment us both on Sonador and our responsible boat handling (that is slowing down as opposed to swamping a small boat on the shore (same 59 foot boat.)

The picture entry for today is at the top.
