After leaving Killarney, we motored out into the Georgian Bay -- into a head wind with waves much to Sophie's disgust. Those boats with sails had a great time on the first leg to Beaverstone, but none of us had fun once we turned north east to the entry to Beaverstone, which is well marked but a little hard to see from the open water.
Announced our arrival and selected a good anchoring spot -- just about the same place we anchored two years ago. First evening ashore, there was a beer exchange -- bring a beer and snacks, and pick a beer to exchange. The next day was the official beginning of the Rally, but there were ten boats here already, so we still had a good time. And, the island where we gathered was great for Sophie being let loose.
By Tuesday evening (the official beginning of the Rally) there were twenty plus boats here, anchored around the Bay. Cocktails ashore but the party was cut short by torrential rains -- every radar in the fleet had said this would pass to our north -- HAH! We could have had a wet t-shirt contest.
Wednesday, came on bright sunshine -- so we all dried out in time for dinghy races -- row one leg, motor the next. And umbrella races -- using only an umbrella for powering the dinghy! And, we all turned in our scavenger hunt results: moss, insect, worm, mushrooms, blue berries, rocks, flowers, etc. That evening we went to another boat, MIDNIGHT SUN, for cocktails -- a Canadian couple who are both Great Loopers and GLCC members -- and then back to Sonador.
Thursday morning between thunder storms we had a book exchange aboard CLASS ACT, then back to the boat to prep for the final gathering ashore: a chili dump (everyone make chili and add to a common pot) as well as salads (my contribution). And then awards for winners of dinghy races and best scavenger hunt results: SONADOR won the umbrella race and the best scavenger hunt (my worm was real and in dirt and my flowers were a small bouquet)!
The next morning we raised anchor around 0830 and headed to Killarney -- where the party continued since many of the boats came into Killarney along with us. Fish and chips at the bus again -- followed by cocktails on Sonador and dinner at the Sportsmans' Inn. Then, we motored the 45 nautical miles to Gore Bay -- where I sit today with plans to leave tomorrow assuming the winds have died down (it blew a steady 25 yesterday with significantly higher gusts)
I'll be out of contact for several days -- as I plan to anchor out again. The next planned date is to be in Little Current for QUEENS RANSOM's annual summer party on August 19th. Then I'll start home.
