On the Way to the Wilderness Rally

Change of plans re meeting BD and Rick -- I stayed put through two days of rain and drizzle -- badly needed by the locals as it is over so much of the North American continent -- and they came on to Gore Bay on Thursday.

We had dinner at Bouys after cocktails aboard Sonador with Kathy and Dave from KATHERINE ANN.  Then, after the farmers' market on Friday morning we left Gore Bay and went thru Clapperton Channel -- well marked but I'd not want to do this in bad weather or high winds -- and tucked in to a great anchorage known locally either as Clapperton Harbor or Harbor Island.  We anchored in 15 feet of crystal clean water, just off the shore from the old Harbor Club which closed in the late 1980's.  Good beaches to explore and we even had a beaver entertain us for awhile.

Next morning, we motored the twelve miles to Little Current for a pump out and fuel -- then ducked under the swing bridge with my antennas down and went on into Snug Harbor on the Landsdowne Channel.  Tried to find the right place to drop an anchor, but between the boats tied to shore at uncomfortable spacing and the depth of 45 feet at one end of the harbor, we weren't certain we were destined to stay.  Finally found a place back toward the entrance to the harbor in 30 feet and settled in for a delightful evening -- including a long walk on shore between the rocky beach and a hunters' well trodden trail.  This morning we hiked across the peninsula to Frazer Bay -- where I created an Inuksook (sp?) that is supposed to look like a dog.

Tonight we are in Killarney -- saw Jarma and Ann from KALUA III on Sonador -- but before that gorged on fresh fried white fish from the Bus -- famous in Killarney and for miles around.  We've been entertained by literally hundreds of boats coming and going between the North Channel and the Georgian Bay.  For those familiar with Annapolis, this is literally an open "Ego Alley" including speed boats, exquisite Yachts, and sea planes going back and forth, trying to outdo one another.

Tomorrow a.m. we head to Beaverstone Bay for the wilderness rally.  I'll be out of touch for the week.. Will try to post pictures in the a.m. highlighting the last few days.
