Petoskey MI

Enroute to Petoskey, you can see that neither the Captain nor the crew were any too nervous about the trip -- which was very pleasant.

Once we rounded the last breakwater for the Municipal Marina, it really was a piece of cake -- it helps that there were two marina hands there to get the lines, and there was NO wind to speak of. The marina is about 1/3 full -- that's okay with us, but not good for the local economy. That's Sonador with the dinghy mounted on the stern.
The marina is right on the bike trail between Harbor Springs (the land mass in the background), Petoskey and Charlevoix -- makes for great walking!
About a mile from the marina is this restored mission -- the oldest public building in northern Michigan, south of the Mackinac Straits, built in 1859, it served the Native American population of this region which was mostly Odawa.
The days have been clear and bright -- but today (Sunday) will be slightly overcast. After chores, we plan to drive over to the Tunnel of Trees just behind Harbor Springs -- where the road narrows to two tiny lanes, and the trees overhang the roadway, and the forest floor is covered with Trillium (small white and blue flowers).
Tuesday -- weather holding -- we will transit to Cheboygan, MI over on Lake Huron -- about 65 miles from here. The longest single day trip planned for this year -- might as well get used to moving!
